Luna Fans : A History
Updated :
Personally, I have been a maniacally huge fan of Harry Potter since 2000. And, I always wanted to own a Harry Potter related fansite, but obviously given my less than mediocre HTML skills at the time, where was my little fansite going to stand out in front of MuggleNet, The Leaky Cauldron, Veritaserum, Snitchseeker, Potterish, and basically countless others. So, I gave up on that little plan and opened up a small directory of my favourite fansites at Freewebs.
Next up, the most anticipated role in the world of Harry Potter – that of Luna Lovegood – went to an unknown fan called Evanna Lynch from a small town called Termonfeckin in Ireland. Hmm, interessant? Not that much. I did check out the first fansite about her Evanna-Lynch.net, which interested me a lot suddenly when I read how she as a fan gets to live her dream. Then opened MuggleNet’s Official Evanna Lynch fansite, ELF.com, which definitely interested me with their authentic information about the absolute angel that Evanna was. A fan, who had corresponded with JK Rowling and been told not to be disheartened, gets the role. Destiny or what? So, that got me started. Ripping of a free template, I hastened to open up a Luna fansite at Freewebs which surprisingly got a small trickle of visitors even on its first day – January 1 2007. A week later, we were hosted at Hollywood Fansites. We never had a proper URL, but the fans poured in. I owned a Harry Potter related fansite, finally, plus about someone who I really admired for her outlook towards life and ambitions.
When Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix released, the site got a boost and became one of the most known Evanna Lynch fansites appearing on Google’s first page. The video and pictures were accessed so much in that week. I was a happy person
. Shortly after that, however, the Hollywood server got some PHP problem, and since we were an active fansite, I couldn’t stay more than a month with a problematic server, so we applied to various fansites host and got selected at For-Fan.org by Sylvia. It was a big crunch period for the fansite but thanks to Sylvia, we got back on track on time.
Here, at our present cozy, little home, we have been quite comfortable. For Fan is a fantastic host. The fansite has been through major changes, additions of new pages, even some exclusives and pretty much is a complete fansite by now. Though, we don’t stop here, we’re always updating with any trickle of news, pictures and multimedia.
Update: Due to some unexplained reasons, For-Fan servers went down, and we had to move over at Fan-Sites.org. The move had been quite difficult for us, as we had to re-build our entire gallery and other content. But anyways, all’s well that ends well.
In the process of this, I got to know some really friendly and cool people from world over, Sarah, Megan, Viki, Sharon, Maura to name a few.
So, that pretty much sums it all up, the tough times we’ve had have been skated over…who likes to remember hard times, anyways? But thanks to the wonderful visitors, we’re here still providing you a platform for celebrating the brilliant character of Luna Lovegood and the actress Evanna Lynch, and we plan to stay with you guys for as long as possible.
