Evanna Lynch : Biography

Evanna Lynch was born on August 16, 1991, to Donal and Marguerite Lynch. She has two elder sisters, Máiréad and Emily, and a younger brother, Patrick. She attended Cartown National School, and later, an all girls’ Catholic school, called Our Lady’s College, Greenhills, located in Drogheda, Ireland.
As of September 2006, she was in Third Year at the school. Evanna Lynch has always been an avid Harry Potter fan all along. Evanna Lynch has had an acting coach (it is not known if she still has the same one) Brenda Gogan, who has this to say about her “She is a very serious actor. Brilliant, dedicated and definitely headed for stardom. Evanna has all the requisites as she can act, sing and dance.”

She beat more than 15, 000 girls for her role. According to the casting team, 14 year old Evanna from a small village Termonfeckin in Louth, Ireland really stood out from the others. Her mum didn’t want her to go at first, but her dad saw how important it was for her and she believed that she would regret it for the rest of her life if she didn’t even try. She and her friends even created a recording of her acting out the part and sent it to Warner Brothers but without any success. It was announced on February 2nd, 2006 that young Evanna Lynch was cast as Luna Lovegood.

Her first movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released on July 11, 2007. Evanna was an instant star, winning rave reviews from critics. Her acting was much appreciated and she was now, an established part of the Potter world. Throughout the year, she made many appearances attending award functions with the rest of the Harry Potter cast and crew, and attending premieres in the UK.

Evanna had corresponded with JK Rowling on an earlier occasion and her copy of the Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix is signed by Jo. Evanna also loves writing fiction. She attended the Centre for the Talented Youth of Ireland, where she completed a three-week ‘Speculative Fiction’ course. In 2008, she returned to CTYI for her last year, attending a Drama course for three weeks.

Evanna’s first out-of-Potter-world high-fashion photoshoot was for Katrin Thomas in late 2008. It received mixed reactions from her fans. Though Evanna did achieve what she most probably set out to: people acknowledging that though she is playing Luna, she cannot be her all the time. Which sort of gets ironical, because when she first walked on the HP sets, she was said to be disappointed because the actors were very different from their characters.

After the Ponytail Magazine photoshoot, Evanna Lynch surprised everyone by appearing in another photoshoot by Ciaran Sweeney in Paris.

With the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, she said that she doesn’t consider herself a celebrity because she’s playing Luna Lovegood, someone she knows by heart. However, her performance gained rave reviews and she got her first award nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at the SCREAM 2009 Awards. Evanna travelled across Europe – England, Switzerland, Belgium, Irish, Denmark, Spain, Greece – promoting her new film and people everywhere thronged to catch a glimpse of the lovely lady.

On Evanna’s 18th birthday in 2009 we prepared an online birthday project for her and she most graciously responded how touched she was by the gesture.

Evanna went back to school in her hometown Termonfeckin to take her Leaving Certificates.

After finishing filming the Harry Potter franchise, Evanna Lynch moved to the United States of America, and she stays in Los Angeles. Her career is expanding as she has taken up projects like SinbadAPEX, It Don’t Come Easy and GBF.
